Cell Phone No Network Zones Can Now Be Battled Using Skype
Are you unhappy with the cell coverage in your area? Although today we own with us the most innovative gadget in recent years the iPhone we lack the best carrier to accompany it. At some places there no cell phone towers or trees are cleverly disguised as cell phone towers. This “bag of hurt” can be addressed through the Skype [iTunes link] app.
First thing you need to do is download the Skype app, which is available in the App store for free. Next keep in mind that when the screen is locked Skype stays online. The iPhone’s main settings page has the access to this through the Skype app preferences. After this is done, even if you push the sleep/awake button set to automatic locking after a given time interval Skype App still maintains a Wi-Fi connection and keeps working in the background. The next thing you need to do is make sure that whatever cell phone dead zone you’re at has a Wi-Fi connection because it is impossible for Skype to make and receive calls without a Wi-Fi connection.
Suppose that people calling you like to dial a phone number instead of your Skype user name then you’ll need to have a separate phone number. SkypeIn, which marries Skype to a real phone number costing around $18 for three months or $60 for a whole year seems one option. Another option is directing your calls to your SkypeIn number with the help of a Google Voice phone number. So whenever you are in a cell phone dead zone or you have a bad reception or cell coverage before you enter your house all you need to do is simply forward all of your iPhone calls to said Skype number. This can be accessed within the iPhone’s main settings via the Phone preferences. This will help you avoid giving out multiple numbers to your friends and family.
A visual indicator is not present while an audible indicator (a ringing noise) is present when you’re receiving a call making it another drawback of this alternative. In short, you when you’re receiving a call you need to have some cat-like ears to understand.
Until more cell towers are built in your area or until a push-based solution is available for Skype this seems to be a seamless solution although it provides a possible workaround.
Please let us know what you’re yourself going to do to remedy cell reception issues. Be it a signal booster or something else.
